We all get to a point in time where we start paying attention to making ourselves appear perfect… We’ve all had fun with cosmetics, and wow it can make us feel good! To have “that” look, or have our favorite features accentuated – and how about that nice confidence boost? And today, we see more and more women encouraging each other to embrace their true beauty, which is an incredible thing.
Cosmetics are meant to enhance the features we were naturally born in. Ranging from products for face or hair, today you can find thousands of brands to choose from. But when did it start? Around 5,000 years ago, some crushed gemstones to decorate the face, and in 3000-1500 BC, women applied red tinted lipstick! Back in the day, cosmetics are a lot used in dramatic arts or war… Now, it’s become a daily must-have for many women around the world.
Plenty of uses came out of the invention of cosmetics. But an unhealthy obsession with it, as with other things, can be detrimental... It is undeniable that this topic has been debated as another form of impossible standards of beauty placed by society, leading to problems many girls face today with low self-esteem or distorted body image. But alas, times are changing and it’s a heartwarming thing to see people more accepting of others who choose not to wear cosmetics...
Wearing cosmetics can be a hassle, and some don’t feel any need for it (less prep time in the morning means more shut eye)… No matter what the reason, with whichever one chooses to do, when those have chosen to not wear cosmetics feel comfortable in doing so – flaunt it! With more and more women focusing on skincare and living healthily, let that beauty shine from deep within your skin.
Since @aliciakeys appeared at the VMAs without cosmetics, she vowed to officially stop covering up – “not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth.” – sparking a movement where people posed their fresh faces, resulting in >12M posts under #nomakeup on Instagram! Now, what if our true beauty rested in simply being who we are, with the face and body we own, and joyfully embracing that every day?
