Milan Fashion Week

Spring/Summer 2017

Isn’t it wonderful to see the Italian government get behind this enormous industry? Italy has got this world leading ability to enjoy life (wine and cheese, anyone?)… What’s another city in the world that knows how to dress feminine, sexy and simple like Milan? #MFW began with Gucci last Wednesday and was closed by Dolce  & Gabbana, complete with their own festive show with performing breakdancers! Stay tuned as we take through our favo designers for MFW SS17.

Gucci, Fendi & Dolce Gabbana

With the following three, the accessories may be the cherries on top of their incredible collections for #MFW this year. @gucci ‘s front-man @lallo25 showcased his punk x monarch collection with near-haute couture level of embroideries down to rose-strewn insoles. To finish @fendi ‘s style for refined grandeur, @karllagerfeld completed the looks with beautifully decorated frame bags with knitted socks and lace-up satin flower embroidery! As for @dolcegabbana, a variety of show-stealing crowns made of LED lights and gemstones, brilliantly complimented their glittering toy soldier jackets.

In attempt to simplify and move past the history of women, Miuccia Prada has gone with a different approach, to be in the now and be present in their seeking for elegance. A collection that embodies ‘90s minimalism and retro prints, @prada ‘s S17 collection stood out with madly extravagant miles of ostrich and marabout trimmings sown in soles, bags to fluffing up necklines – almost Dr. Seuss-like. The show-stealer of the set? How about that evening pajama set made in luminescent light yellow silk?

When it comes to Italian athleisure, it seems that Max Mara and Versace has got them down pat. With techno fabrics, hooded jackets and stretchy onesies as core of the collection, Italian-born architect Lina Bo Bardi’s work in Brazil was what influenced @maxmara to showcase their jungle prints and stripey furry sweaters. Whereas with @versace, @donatella_versace exhibited a modern wardrobe for women in mind, who could wear a versatile piece fit for many occasions.

“We wanted to keep the feeling of holidays going,” says Natasa Cagajl, where she designed her @ports1961womenswear collection out of her studio in London. With bright greens, blues and beach-inspired strips, the lineup successfully strikes that balance between easy weekend-wear and crisp work wear for all the hustlers with busy schedules! And another brilliant designer who some say are one of the leaders for conceptual design, Consuleo Castiglioni artistic touch to the design for Marni this seasons should defo be checked out.
