Top 10 Fashion Moments

The Standout Moments of The Year

There were endless rounds of designer musical chairs, harrowing events and not-so-welcome surprises this 2016, but also a handful of moments in the style sphere that are worth to take note of (and be in respect of) before we trod into 2017. Scroll down to relive the standout moments of the year that left a lasting impact on our minds!

See Now Buy Now

The year 2016 was when Fashion Week had an identity crisis. With the rise of see-now, buy-now taking over, heaps of designers opted to show in-season collections and have them ready to shop right from the runway, in attempt to address the time lag between shows and sales. Whether or not this led to huge sales in the long run may still be too early to tell.

Artists x Fashion

What would Marie Antoinette wear if she went to the gym? Rihanna proved to be a power player as she took her Fenty x Puma show to Paris this Spring, with no signs of slowing down. This year, we saw even more artists who took things to their own hands, having a go at fashion (see: Kanye West, Drake and Justin Bieber).  Even Lady Gaga cameo-d and walked the runway!

Street Wear Comes Out On Top

Hitting a peak this year, streetwear has been the reining winner of the winter’s style scene. From sweatshirts reading “May The Bridges I Burn Light The Way” to DHL T-shirts, it was definitely a Vetements craze that made an appearance at almost every fashion event of the year. With Demna’s tongue-in-cheek irony in outrageous silouhettes, its price points was outrageous, too. But hey, it sells! Not bad for a six-seasons-old brand.

Merch Madness

This year, concern tickets aren’t the only hottest things that performers have been selling... Think Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo merch, to Justin Bieber’s Purpose Tour. As the biggest names in rap and pop leveraged their personal brands, oh, it was inescapable! As Kanye boasted making $1 million in a one-day NYC pop-up, we’re probably just getting started with this on-trend, low-cost tour merch.

This June 2016, the fashion world mourned over the loss of their beloved street style photographer, Bill Cunningham... In commemoration, NYC renamed Cunningham’s go-to street style corner (57th and 5th) to “Bill Cunningham Corner”, where he “turned our sidewalks into runways and New Yorkers into models,” says Mayor Bill de Blasio. At the first NYFW without him, other photographers paid tribute to this legend by adorning his signature bright blue coat.
