Men's Paris Fashion Week

Spring/Summer 2018

3/4 through for #SS18 collections, and Menswear Paris Fashion Week has just wrapped up! But before we start talking about the one happening in New York, here’s our top picks from #MPFW this season.

CGD Shirt,Comme Des Garcons

Prop up a multicolored disco ball and just like that, @commedesgarcons ‘s stage turned into a dance floor. As baggy glitter-clad adolescent boys strut down the runway, their drape-y sparkling jackets blinded our eyes as they appeared like a mass of dolls preparing for a photo montage. Also, their labe;-within-a-label-within-a-label @commedesgarconsph made more of a statement with their plaid, wide, bloomin’ bottoms… But not in a clown-ish way as one might think!

Dries Van Noten

As for @jonathan.anderson ‘s attempt to make a collection like “never existed before at @loewe,” its seriously luxe lavender mohair suits and lighthearted easy-to-wear sweaters all contribute to something more warm and authentic rather than distant and inaccessible.

Despite @driesvannoten insisting that his #SS18 show were to begin and end with color, the overall feel definitely gave off some military vibes with a color palette consisting of tobacco brown, plaster pink, mustard and khaki.

Loewe
Dior Homme,Louis Vuitton

Art Director @mrkimjones gave the o-kay with Hawaiian shirts this #SS18, with collection that doesn’t forget its super-sophisticated tailoring, convincing proportions and advances fabric techniques at the @louisvuitton show in Paris. In the meantime, @diorhomme celebrated its 70th anniversary by reinventing the white-shirt-black-suit combo prom-style paired with sneakers, as if it was “the time you got to stay out for the first time!”

At @wmountaineering, @yosukeaizawa explained that the #SS18 #MPFW collection took cues from blue-collar / manual-labor jobs; think: carpenters, painters, and artists- a fitting way to combine fashion and workwear as he partnered with Wrangler on a jean capsule.

White Mountaineering
Yohji Yamamoto

And as for @yohjiyamamotoofficial, he “…wanted to say women are terrible, scary.” And he did, literally, through different manners of writing- expressing wry conviction and vulnerability through printed tape across shirts, and even sinister faces smack-dab on the fronts.
