For those who #krave for peaceful hills laden jam-packed with vividly colored flowers, then Hitachi Seaside Park is the place to be. Located in Ibaraki Prefecture in the northern part of Kanto region in Japan, the Oz-like pathways make their way through the abundance of flowering plants – differing all year long.
Often enormous and displayed monochromatically, the 350-hectare piece of land is famous for various types of flowers that bloom to its fullest every few months or so. The park’s gentle slopes can make the whole experience so captivating – you’ll wish you were a toddler again so you can swim through the bushes; feeling the flowers to its entirety.
There are all seven different areas of flower fields that one can explore at Hitachi Seaside Park, all offering the beauty of nature displayed in different ways. Among these, the Miharashi no Oka area is especially noteworthy – best to be visited between late-April to mid-May, where you can see 4.5 million nemophilla flowers in bloom; a sea of translucent-petaled blue flowers matching the massive blue skies above...
Stroll through the long and winding road on cycling trails provided for those who prefer to feel the breeze on their faces even more so, and enjoy seeing all the oceans of petals from high up on the Ferris wheel. Then, if you come in the season of changing leaves, don’t expect the ocean-like blues – but harsh, firey crimson as the red kochia bushes take over.
