FIJI

Things To Do in Fiji

Crystal clear waters to swim in, serenading singers welcoming you 24/7, and good ol’ Fijian music to keep you up in good spirits. Do you live in the Southern Hemisphere? You’re doing a disservice to yourself if you haven’t visited Fiji at least once in your lifetime! Made up of 330 islands, Fiji offers ample opportunities for snorkelling savants, fishermen’s friends, diving divas, terrific trekkers, etc etc. This little island country will satisfy even the most active (or passive) traveller.

Marine Life in Fiji

In such a vastly modernizing world, a small group of people live hidden away in the highlands, rejecting modern housing options and continue their traditional ways of living. Inside “bures” made of woven bamboo, pandanus mats and roof of reeds built diretly on the grass-covered earth, the people of Navala Village gives many a glimpse into a more peaceful and grounded way of life... It is also by far Fiji’s most picturesque village; a photographer’s delight if you will.

Yes it has palm-fringed beaches, dense rainforests and cascading waterfalls, but underneath the warm South Pacific Ocean lives a massive array of exotic fishes swimming around soft coral reefs, making snorkeling and scuba diving excellent tourist activities in the wonderful island of Fiji. Known as the “Soft Coral Capital of the World”, it is also home to reef sharks, manta rays, and sea turtles. With incredibly warm sea temperatures, visibility is excellent with depths of 40 meters!

Surfing in Fiji

Fiji’s waves are no longer exclusive to local landowners or resorts, so go to any surfing area your heart desires! Head to Mamanuca Islands (Cloudbreak or Restaurants), Viti Levu (Hideaways or Frigates) and Naninya Island (The Bombi or King Kong) either in winter (Apr-Oct) where the waves are the biggest, or in the summer (Nov-Mar) with its shorter swells and lighter winds. But be warned, as most breaks are all over coral reefs, it’s not the best place for beginners!

Colo-i-Suva Forest Park,-

Colo-i-Suva (pronounced tholo-ee-soo-va) is a 2.5 sq km oasis of lush green rainforests flourishing with tropical plants and melodic bird life. Located on the mainland of Viti Levu, the 6.5km of walking trails navigate through clear natural pools and gorgeous vistas sitting at an altitude of 120-180m high. Trot over water-worn rocks at Waisila Creek, make your way down to Waimanu River, swim in the watering holes and spot over 14 different bird species along the way!

A place of solitude, a tropical happy place... Off the northeast coast of Taveuni, you’ll find a tiny private retreat of Laucala Island, offering 25 villas or “bures” that dot the resort for that intimate desert isle vibe.

Staying true to its authentic Fijian roots, using fresh produce and livestock from the resort’s gardens and farms make it a self-sustaining paradise! Live on simple past times like tennis, sport fishing or sunbathing in lagoon pools, or stroll across the sands riding on horseback.
