CHEFCHAOUEN

Marocco

Perhaps one of Morocco’s most picturesque towns, the vibrantly soft-blue palette that’s woven throughout Chefchaouen is beautifully perched beneath the peaks of the Rif. Founded in the 1400s as a fortress to protect the north from the Portuguese invasion, multiple inhabitants have created a mix of cultures that gives the city this unique charm… A great place to relax and explore, stay tuned as we take you through some of the sights to see!

From alleyways, houses, floors, walls – all a legacy of their faith, as the color blue is symbolic of God and heaven. You’ll instantly fall in love with the place, as all 50 shades (and more?) of blue is smeared on the old walls. You’ll probably walk so slow to take it all in...

Medina & Plaza Uta el-Hammam

For some old-town feel, stroll over to Medina where you’ll see some of the heaviest Andalucian influence on its architecture. With red-tiled roofs and red-hued walls, it is such a contrast from the valley of blinding bright blue and white. It’s small and uncrowded, making it easy to explore; so you’ll never feel lost. And in the heart of it all, there’s the cobbled Plaza Uta el-Hammam, lined with various cafes and restaurants!

The city’s Jewish inhabitants left such a sweeping mark in the town of Chefchaouen. Expect a lot of blue. Like, everywhere.

Standing close by, the historic Moroccan castle (called the Kasbah) is a heavily restored walled-fortress complete with a lovely garden, a small ethnographic museum, and an art gallery that promotes the work of local artists.

Many of its writing is in Arabic (Google Translator to the rescue), but book a tour online for a fully-fledged expert to take you back in time and tell you of its rich cultural stories.

Grande Mosquée

Another note-worthy sight, the unusual octagonal tower of the Grande Mosquee dates back to the 15th century. Built by the son of the town’s founder, Ali Ben Rachid, the attraction is exclusive to Muslims only to see… Regardless, it’s still worth a visit to see the structure from the outside, where you can listen to the beautiful echoes of the call to prayer that sounds five times a day.

After a long day of exploring, the luxurious Lina Ryad & Spa would be the right choice! Nestled in the heart of medina, it is strategically positioned to best accommodate as your home base for the adventure. Enjoy many of the bright and spacious suites that boast 360-degree views of the surrounding peaks and bustling medina, and take in all that tranquility that’s also offered in the spa and an indoor heated pool, too! Perf.
