And there goes the first weekend of #Coachella2017! Who wants to go back??? Up next, let’s quickly summarize the highlights of weekend 1 so you lucky ones going to weekend 2 can get pumped up (even more).
Just after two days of @kendricklamar ‘s DAMN. release, some very lucky fans saw him perform a couple of songs off the album live at @coachella, including DNA., GOD., and closing it with HUMBLE. @champagnepapi also performed with @future, and there was a surprise guest performance by @theweeknd !!! Whispers of the Starboy’s appearance swirled throughout the evening, but nobody could contain themselves for the 3-song performance.
Did we mention @pharrell was there too? Zimmer said that “it takes a special kind of crazy person to bring an orchestra out into the desert,” but there they were!
Imagine: the desert plains of @Coachella Valley, and the prolific film composer @hanszimmer orchestrating “Circle of Life” amidst the sunrise-colored backdrop. Chill-inducing? Most def, especially for the generation who grew up with @disney! “Pirates of the Caribbean” also came up, as well as “The Dark Knight.”
-Another highlight was @lordemusic performing hits from her debut album such as “Royals” and “Tennis Court,” before she went on with strong tracks like “Buzzcut Season” and “Ribs,” before debuting a new tune, “Homemade Dynamite” from her upcoming album Melodrama that’s about to be released in June. Reminiscent of @siathisisacting ‘s stage a year earlier, Lorde sang in front of a see-through cargo container filled with dancers and acting out the angsty electro-pop themes.
In other news, can we talk about the four major artworks scattered around this #Coachella2017? It’s all about architectural scale and visual impact this year, like @gustavopradoart ‘s 35-foot metal frame with 2,120 security mirrors attached called “The Lamp Beside the Golden Door.” There was also a 50-foot installation called the “Crown Ether,” resembling a colorful treehouse elevated on thick, angular trunks. Offering shade and a gathering spot for festival goers underneath, artist @kidcadaver created it as a spot where people can interact with his work.
@ravivoraAs we reminisced of the Simba-days with @hanszimmer, why not go nostalgic for #drseuss? Towering plants in 31 colorful blessed the grounds, the “@Chiaozza Garden” was a playful, friendly note to the harsh 90-degree heat and sunlight blasting from the sky. The bulbous structures came in various bright pastel shades, casting shadows where festivalgoers lie down to nap in. And how about those tall, boxy piñata-looking things called “Is This What Bring Things Into Focus” by @joannetatham and @tomosullivan?
