Bawah is the first island in Indonesia to be powered by a renewable microgrid. The resort was hand-built from sustainable bamboo and recycled materials such as driftwood and copper. All water is sourced on the island and recycled as drinking water. All water heats up with solar energy; all paper is mulched; composted, crushed glass is used to filter water; and all other waste is sent back to Batam for recycling.
You can see the resulting imperfections in the rustic chic surroundings of the resort giving it an all the more appealing look. You can almost spend your entire time barefoot, walking on these stone paths built by skillful hands. Sandy paths and ironwood walkways connect the villas and safari-style tents, some secluded among lush foliage, others on stilts above crystalline water just a few feet above the colourful fish.
Bawah Resort also provides a non-motorized water sports such as paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing and boat trips around the lagoon as are a variety of on-land activities, such as guided hikes, an open air cinema and star gazing.
Just like any other luxurious overwater villas, Bawah Reserve is a short walk from the main boardwalk so they are not out in the sea but just a few meters from shore. They are still fully over water and on stilts. The Dedon sun loungers come in the signature egg-shape and are perfect to enjoy sunset, with so much more to explore on the island, make sure that you have insert Bawah on your bucket-list!
